The Shire of Mount Magnet is situated within the Mid West region of Western Australia, and comprises the towns of Mount Magnet, Lennonville and Boogardie.
Mount Magnet itself is a small town which serves the local mining and pastoral communities. Its neighbouring sheep stations are some of the largest in WA. The town is named after the magnetic ironstone in the nearby hill, which to this day will mess with your compass!
At the peak of the gold rush Mount Magnet was known as the ‘hub of the Murchison’, today it continues to provide facilities and services for the mining and pastoral industries, and tourism. There are many historical buildings, heritage sites and walk trails within Mount Magnet where visitors can experience the beautiful outback and local history.
Whether you visit overnight or for an extended stay the town has 3 hotels, and the Shire runs the Caravan Park situated on the main street. There is always something going on in Mount Magnet, with plenty of entertainment for residents and visitors including pubs, cinema, youth centre, swimming pool and activities for the kids.
