Adapting to the Digital Age and Going Online

Ross's Auctioneers & Valuers has made significant changes to the way we conduct our auctions. We have shifted from traditional auctions to primarily conducting online auctions due to the benefits they offer.

One key benefit is that online auctions provide a streamlined process from registration to payment, which saves time and increases efficiency for both buyers and sellers.

Online auctions have enabled us to reach a wider audience locally and globally, significantly expanding our reach. This is particularly important for items that may have a niche market or are unique, as they can now connect with buyers who are interested in such specific items.

The transition has been a positive change for us and our customers. It has allowed them to offer a more efficient and convenient way of buying and selling items while also providing their clients with a wider audience to connect with.

Online Auctions Overview

Online auctions work similarly to traditional or "live" auctions, with the key difference being that buyers place their bids on the items (also known as "lots") using our online auction system

Our online auctions utilise an Anti-Snipe Bidding System, which extends a Lot's bidding window if a bid is placed within 5 minutes of its closing. This creates a similar experience to a traditional auction's 'going, going, gone' atmosphere, where anyone who has been outbid can increase their bids and create a more competitive environment.

Online auctions offer a key advantage over traditional auctions: they reach a broader and more diverse audience (buyers). This is because online auctions remove geographic and time limitations that can hinder traditional auctions, ultimately leading to higher sales results. Additionally, potential buyers can easily bid on items from the comfort of their homes, offices or even on the go via their mobile devices, making the bidding process more convenient and accessible.

Online auctions function very similarly to traditional auctions, with the only difference being that bids are submitted online. In addition, online auctions tend to be more cost-effective than traditional auctions because they require less staff to manage the process.

The Benefits of Using Our Online Platform for Your Next Auction in Kalgoorlie

At Ross's Auctioneers & Valuers, we have extensive experience conducting successful online auctions. Some of the key benefits of our online auctions include:

1. Increased Reach and Accessibility

Global Audience: You can reach a global audience of potential buyers, expanding the market reach beyond local boundaries and increasing the chances of attracting competitive bids from interested parties worldwide.

24/7 Accessibility: Unlike traditional auctions, which are limited by time and location, you can access the platform round-the-clock and participate in any bidding at your convenience, regardless of location or time zone.

2. Convenience and Flexibility

Flexible Bidding: You can place bids anytime, anywhere, using your computer, smartphone, or tablet. This eliminates the need to attend physical auctions in person and allows for greater convenience and flexibility in the bidding process

Convenient Listing and Management: Sellers can list and manage auction items conveniently through online platforms, upload photos, descriptions, and terms, and monitor bidding activity in real time, streamlining the auction process and saving time and effort.

3. Cost-Effective and Efficient

Lower Overheads: Online auctions eliminate the need for costly venue rentals, staffing, and logistics associated with traditional auctions, reducing overhead costs for sellers and maximising returns on auctioned items.

Faster Transactions: Online auctions facilitate faster transactions and settlements with automated bidding, invoicing, and payment processing. This speeds up the entire auction process and reduces administrative delays and paperwork.

4. Enhanced Transparency and Security

Transparency: Provides transparent bidding processes, with bid histories, timestamps, and bid increments displayed publicly. This ensures fairness and accountability in the auction process and promotes trust among buyers and sellers.

Secure Transactions: Offers secure payment gateways and encryption protocols to protect financial transactions and personal information, reducing the risk of fraud, identity theft, and unauthorised access to sensitive data.

A Guide to Participating in Ross’s Online Auctions

To participate in our online auctions, the first step is to register on our website at www.auctions.com.au by completing the sign-up process. Once you've registered, you can proceed to the auction you're interested in.

If you find an item you wish to bid on, click the "Place Bid" button next to the item. From there, you can enter one of the following:

  • Auto Bid (where you set your maximum bid amount, and the system will automatically bid for you incrementally until the item sells or the bidding exceeds your maximum bid, whichever comes first).
  • Insta Bid (where the amount you enter will be a one-off bid).

A window will appear to confirm your bid, displaying the total amount, including our Buyer's Premium, which is added on top of the Hammer Price.

During the final 5 minutes of bidding, our Anti-Snipe Bidding System is used to reset the Lot's availability for 5 minutes, ensuring all bidders involved have a fair opportunity to continue bidding until the highest bidder is determined.

If you win an item, you will receive an email notification and a copy of the invoice. For payment, we use an Automatic Payment System that automatically deducts amounts under $2,000 from your linked credit card. For amounts over $2,000, a deposit of $1,000 will be deducted, and you will need to pay the remaining balance before the items can be released.

We also provide scheduled Inspection Periods for most of our auctions, which gives potential bidders the opportunity to view the items in person and evaluate their condition before bidding. It's important to know the item's location for inspections and collections. Please note where the item is stored before bidding and adhere to the Inspection & Collection Periods noted in the auction information.

Tip: To make informed decisions, we highly recommend conducting research on the items of interest before bidding. Please note that we do not sell items outside of the auction.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Selling on Our Online Auction System

Selling items on the platform can be a lucrative venture, but it's essential to avoid common pitfalls that could hinder your success. Here are some common mistakes you should not overlook when you’re selling online:

1. Setting the Wrong Starting Price

Setting a starting price that is too high can deter potential buyers from bidding, while setting it too low may result in selling your item for less than its worth.

2. Ignoring Item Descriptions

Providing incomplete or inaccurate item descriptions can lead to misunderstandings and dissatisfaction among buyers.

3. Neglecting Quality Photos

Using low-quality or blurry photos can make your item appear less attractive to potential buyers.

4. Overlooking Shipping Costs

Failing to provide accurate shipping costs can lead to unexpected expenses for buyers and may deter them from bidding.

5. Being Unresponsive

Delayed responses to buyer inquiries or messages can result in frustration and lost opportunities.

6. Setting Unrealistic Expectations

Expecting to sell your item for a significantly higher price than its market value can lead to disappointment and a lack of interest from buyers.

7. Not Promoting Your Listing

Failing to promote your listing outside the auction platform can limit its visibility and reduce the number of potential buyers.

8. Ignoring Platform Policies

Violating the terms and conditions of the auction platform can result in penalties or account suspension.

9. Being Inflexible with Pricing

Refusing to negotiate on the price of your item can deter potential buyers who are looking for a deal.

10. Not Monitoring Your Listing

Failing to monitor your listing's performance and adjust your strategy accordingly can result in missed opportunities.

Detailed Descriptions: Provide detailed and accurate descriptions of your products, including dimensions, materials, features, and any flaws or imperfections. Transparency and honesty in your listings can build trust with potential buyers and encourage faster sales.

Set Competitive Prices

Research Comparable Listings: Research similar products on the platform to gauge market prices and trends. Set competitive prices that reflect the value of your products while also appealing to potential buyers.
